The Residency Selection Arms Race, Part 2: Anatomy of an Arms Race

Today I got to speak at a webinar reviewing lessons learned from the 2020-2021 residency application cycle.

A version of my talk is available at the Sheriff of Sodium YouTube channel.

My job was to present the current state of the residency application process. I tried to do that in the time allowed – but I also wanted to seize the opportunity to try to make the audience think bigger.

From my standpoint, we have an incredible opportunity to align the goals of medical education and residency selection to create a virtuous competition instead of perpetuating a wasteful arms race. Hopefully I convinced at least a couple of audience members of that, too.

If you’re interested, you can watch a version of my talk here. (The actual talk may become available online in the future; if it does, I’ll link to it here.)
