Last year, the House Judiciary Committee announced an investigation into the “Match monopoly.” Is Match a wage suppressing cartel that harms both resident physicians and patients? Should its statutory antitrust exemption be repealed?
Last month, the Committee released the interim report of their investigation – which that concluded that yes, the Match causes stagnant resident wages, leads to poor resident working conditions, and contributes to the “physician shortage” – among other things.
These are serious allegations… so it’s time for the Fact Police to investigate.

Give me a few minutes of your time, and I’ll examine the logic, the evidence, the economics, and the law. Does this case actually hold up – or are we mis-diagnosing the problems?
